Remembering Robin Warren
We were saddened last month by the death at the age of 93 of Robin Warren, a long-term stalwart of the Party in the Forest of Dean. Robin was a Liberal Democrat District, Town and Parish Councillor and a Church Warden. He served as Mayor of Lydney from 1994-95. He did a great deal of work towards the preservation of Forest foot-paths, and supported Forest Sensory Services. He was in his later years President of the Forest of Dean Constituency Liberal Democrat Party.
As an army reservist, Robin served in Cyprus during the Suez Crisis as a sergeant in the Royal Engineers. He went on to work for the then Newent Rural District Council, moving to the Forest of Dean District Council after reorganisation where he became Chief Rating Officer (our fellow member Sue Henchley remembers him for the ‘invaluable insights’ which he could provide in later years having been both an officer and an elected member of the council).
From Newent he moved to Lydney, where among other things he jointly ran the folk dance club, and even worked part-time as a journalist at Forest Newspapers. Our sympathy to his widow Susan.
