Boris Johnson: Future Conservative Leader?

July 19, 2018 9:06 AM
By Terry Tull in The Independent www.independent.co.uk

With Boris Johnson resigning as Foreign Secretary over Brexit, it's worth remembering how embarassing he has been to the UK.

At any other time he would have been sacked for these mistakes, but in the crazy world we now live, he is still regarded by some as a future PM.

Here is a list of some of his mistakes:

  • Said British citizen, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was training journalists in Iran. She is still in Jail in Iran and thanks to him she is threatened with a longer sentence.
  • Saying the town of Sirte, Libya will have a bright future as a luxury resort once they "cleared the dead bodies away".
  • Likening former French president Francois Hollande to a WW2 German General.
  • Described Afica as "that country" as a place that is less safe than 10 years ago.
  • Stopped from reciting a colonial-era poem in Myanmar's (formally the British colony of Burma) most sacred temple.
  • In a Bristol Sikh temple, talked about increasing Whisky imports to India.

Donald Trump described him as "very clever". Praise indeed from someone who once said "I'm the smartest guy I know", being able to recite Rudyard Kipling and speaking latin don't make you clever and they certainly don't make you a leader.

Empathy with your fellow humans, and thinking before you open your mouth, might be key requirements you'd want in someone who controls tax, benefits, housing, jobs etc.

So sorry Boris you are not PM material and you're certainly not better than Theresa May.
