Schools forced to sell off playing fields?

Are Gloucestershire school playing fields in danger of being sold off to make up for the Tory cuts of the past few years?

Since 2015, 110 school sports fields across the country have been sold as cash-strapped schools try to raise enough money to keep going. Official figures show that 13 school playing fields have been sold off this year - 8 in the last 3 months.

While Boris Johnson talks about tackling childhood obesity, his poor funding decisions are forcing schools to sell off these vital resources for keeping chldren fit.

Lib Dem Leadership contender Layla Moran MP is quoted in the 'i' newspaper as saying "Selling off school playing fields is a massive own-goal in the fight against obesity. It is staggering that this is happening in areas where up to one in four children are obese. The government must give cash-strapped schools the funding they need to ensure playing fields aren't sold off."

If you know of any school in Gloucestershire where there is a threat of the playing field being sold off, please let us know - at info@fodlibdems.org.uk - so that we can fight this threat to our children's wellbeing.
